Semaglutide injections for weight loss

Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, which one is better?

Some studies show that Tirzepatide in Munjaro is better for some, but it does cost more and need more medication.
One should be aware that not all drugs work the same for everyone. and so is Tirzepatide. We have seen in some cases that semaglutide has shown better results than Tirzepatide.
First of all the manufactured Mounjaro Ozempic and Wegovy etc., all come in fixed dose pre-filled pens and as stated above all medications when created for masses may not be suitable or affordable for everyone.

The affordable and available forms of these medications are compounded versions.

Compounding is a process of combining, mixing, or altering ingredients to create a medication tailored to the needs of an individual patient. Compounding includes the combining of two or more drugs. When a drug is in shortage, compounders may be able to prepare a compounded version of that drug.

Here is some of the available information about both medications in simple terms. You should read this to be able to have an informed discussion with

SEMAGLUTIDE

According to FDA, the unsafe versions of Compounded Semaglutide contain salt forms of Semaglutide, including Semaglutide sodium and Semaglutide acetate. The salt forms are different active ingredients than is used the approved drugs, which contain the base form of Semaglutide. Naturally occurring GPL-1 agonists lasts a very short time, but the compounded GPL-1 lasts over 5 days, making these once-a-week injections.

What is the mechanism of action of Semaglutide? Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist and occupies the GLP-1 receptor in the brain that regulates appetite. It should not be used with other Semaglutide-containing products (such as Ozempic, Rybelsus) or other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines. GLP-1 works to help people to lose weight in 3 ways:

  •
Weight loss
  • It targets the brain centers that regulate appetite, especially after eating, which may help you eat less.
  • It slows down how quickly the stomach empties, which makes you feel fuller for longer.
  • Semaglutide helps the pancreas to release more insulin that stops the formation of unhealthy fat.
  • Semaglutide treatment can be recommended for long-term use if it’s effective. With continued use, Semaglutide has been shown in studies to help people lose weight and keep it off for over one year.

Who can use Semaglutide for weight loss?

Semaglutide for weight loss is approved to be used in adults and children 18 years of age and older based on their body mass index (BMI) and the presence of certain health conditions. It can be used in addition to diet and exercise for long-term weight management in:

Adults who are either obese (BMI ≥30 kg/m2) or overweight (BMI ≥27kg/m2) with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol levels. adolescents 18 years and older with an initial BMI at or above the 95th percentile for age and sex (based on growth charts).

      • Ozempic (Semaglutide), as seen on TV can help you lose weight. Ozempic (Semaglutide) comes in fixed doses but may not be covered by your health insurance plans. At Arden Diet Center, we offer compounded Semaglutide with B6 or B12 to meet your dosing needs and affordability.

      • Semaglutide- Is in a class of medications called Glucagon-like peptides (GLP-1) agonists. GLP-1 agonists work by stimulating the pancreas to increase insulin.

      • Semaglutide works by slowing down gastric emptying. When the stomach takes more time to empty itself of food, it sends signals of “fullness” to the brain. The result of this process is powerful appetite suppression. This means patients can benefit from medically assisted weight loss without any need for invasive surgeries or harsh stimulants.

        • A semaglutide regimen will lead to stabilized blood sugar levels, helping people feel more energetic and healthier overall.

        • Administer semaglutide once weekly, subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.

How long does Semaglutide take to work?

You may see some weight loss in the 4 weeks of Semaglutide treatment, but the full effect can take several months. Your doctor will slowly increase your dose when you start treatment to help lessen stomach side effects like nausea and diarrhea. It typically takes about 17 weeks to reach your final maintenance dose of Semaglutide.

Studies conducted by the manufacturer over 68 weeks show that, on average, adults using Semaglutide lost about 35 lbs. (15.9 kg), or about 15% of their total body weight. In contrast, 31% of people using a placebo (inactive treatment) lost about 6 lbs.(2.7 kg), or about 2.5% of their body weight.

In people 21 years and older, Semaglutide reduced their body mass index (BMI) by 16.1% after 68 weeks compared to a 0.6% reduction in the placebo group. Plus, the BMI was reduced by at least 5% in 77% of children receiving Semaglutide compared to 20% receiving a placebo.
